Abstract

559,994. Red lead. FEUER, E. July 27, 1942, No. 10514. [Class 1 (iii)] Red lead is obtained by oxidizing lead oxide or other suitable lead compounds by passing oxygen containing gases in a continous flow from the bottom to the top of the charge contained in a stationary vessel. In the apparatus shown lead oxide is contained in an iron pan 2 having an inner wall 3 which stops short of the base 1 of the pan and provides an annular chamber 14 into which oxidizing gas under pressure passes from tubes 13 heated by the furnace 11. The apparatus is provided with a removable lid 4, a slipper 8, 9, openings 17 for exhaust gases, an inlet 16 for raw material and an outlet 15 for the product.
