609,487. Furnace atmospheres. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 8, 1945, No. 14556. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1941. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group II] Apparatus for the reduction of ammonium molybdate (see Group II) comprises a furnace 11, an inclined reduction tube 13 of refractory material passing into and adapted to be heated by the furnace, means 25 and 26 for closing the ends of the said tube and for opening said ends, whereby material to be reduced is admitted at the high end and withdrawn reduced at the low end, a connection 14 for introducing graduated amounts of an inert gas to the said tube adjacent the low end thereof, for a connection 22 for introducing a reducing gas to the said tube adjacent the high end thereof and a connection 24 for withdrawing surplus reducing gas from the said tube adjacent the low end thereof, for return to the supply. As shown the apparatus is adapted to use steam as the inert gas, supplied in the form of water. Water is supplied from constant level reservoir 15 through control valve 18 and gauged capillary tube 19 in sight glass 21 to connection 14.
