609,445. Specific-gravity estimating-apparatus. MANCHESTER OIL REFINERY, Ltd., and PORGES, F. March 14, 1946, No. 7993. [Class 97 (iii)] The density of the liquid flowing in a main b is indicated by a U tube o, containing mercury and having its limbs communicating via interposed U tubes j, t, containing mercury, with the top and bottom respectively of a tube e, which communicates at its middle via tube c<2> with the main b above a restricted orifice a therein and at its ends via bends f, g, and tubes w, x with the main b below the orifice a. The reference liquid trapped in the tubes m and u between the mercury in the U tube o and the U tubes j, t, respectively, is a thin and highlyrefined mineral oil or similar liquid. The tube c<2> may be connected to the main through a strainer c<1> and the liquid therein brought to a standard temperature by cooler z. The U tube o may incorporate a float p for operating indicating, recording or controlling mechanism.
