Abstract
608,929. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 5, 1946, No. 10599. Convention date, July 24, 1941. [Class 37] A device according to Specification 537,889 comprises several metal rectifier cells with a common supporting plate 13<1> with one aperture for each cell, and the connecting wire 5 from each cell passes through a corresponding aperture and is fixed therein by a fused joint so that forces exerted on the free ends of the wires are not transmitted to the cells. The other electrode connections for the cells are similarly soldered in apertures in the plate, which forms the bottom of a box 13 of phenol condensation product. Four selenium cells may rest in recesses in the bottom of a box. The walls of each aperture are metallised or carry a metal bush 14 soldered to the wire 5. Blade springs 17, 18 form pressure contacts for the cells and are carried under the flange of a tube 19 passing through the plate and having a wire 6 soldered therein. The plate 13<1> may be of metal with insulating bushes. The cells may have a diameter of a few mm. and may be housed in an electric meter. The box may be filled with sealing material and has a lid 25. The wires 5 may be sealed by percussion welding to the aluminium base of the cell, and the other electrode may be connected to a thin wire spirally coiled and fused thereto.
