This invention relates to improvements xin amplifiers for radio apparatus, and more particularly to a novel audion tube for eliminating the B batteries.
The principal object of this invention is to eliminate both B batteries, and power packs, and in fact, the elimination of all but one source of energy which can be either direct current or alternating current.
In the following specification and claim, other important objects and advantages oil the invention will readily become apparent to the reader.
In the drawing, the single view represents a vertical sectional view through the novel tube structure.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the container of glass or some other suitable material. This tube is evacuated and properly7 sealed after theleads have been properly disposed. f
As is clearly shown Iin the drawing, the hollow tube 6 is disposed vertically within the container 5 and this tube receives the elongated heater element 7 Circumscribing the upper portion of this tube 6 is a sleeve 8 of suitable di-electric material, for supporting the thermopile 9. It
can be noted, that the lower portion of the tube 6 is disposed within the cathode element 10, which is in the form of a sleeve of suitable material.
Opposed to the cahode 10 is the plate 1l i and interposed between the plate 11 and the cathode 10 is the grid 12. It can be seen that the conductor 13' connects one end of the thermopile 9 to the plate 11, while the opposite end of the thermo-pile is connected to a lead secondary connected by the wire 17 to the Y grid 12, while the positive side of the second- Y 5 ary extends to the thermo-pile lead 14,the

reproducer 18 being interposed in this connection.
One side of the primary of the transformer 16 is connected to aerial 19 for disposition in the usual electrical socket found in households, while the other end of the primary is grounded in the manner shown.
A battery or any suitable source of current may be interposed between the terminals 20 for supplying current to the heater element 7.
It will thus be seen that B batteries, in power packs, will be eliminated along with the various'disadvantages found' in their use. Furthermore, while the invention has been definitely stated in the foregoing specification, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is An audion tube comprising an evacuated container, a di-electric tube mounted within the container, a heatingA element disposed within said di-electric tube, a thermo-pile mounted outside of said di-electric tube and within the container, one end of the thermopile being connected to a terminal, a plate, said plate being connected to the opposite end of the thermo-pile, a grid interposed between the plate and the tube, said grid being connected to another terminal, and a cathode element mounted on said cli-electric tube in Y opposed relation to the said grid.
