Abstract
608,864. Radiation treatment apparatus. ROTH, G. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24569. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Groups XI and XX] In a radiator for thermal, visible or ultra-violet radiation three or more directionally radiating units, each comprising an elongated source with a reflector, are distributed round an axis, and control means can displace at least the reflectors so that the radiation converges to a region which can be moved axially with respect to the projector. The range of displacement can obtain divergence of the field of radiation. The upper and lower halves of Figs. 1 and 2 show such a radiator in different positions of adjustment. A tube 12 houses the reflector of a mercury-vapour discharge device 11 radiating ultra-violet rays. A cupped member 13B has a tubular part 13A of increased diameter, which, together with the tube 12, forms an annular housing for hexagonally arranged infrared generators 21, each in the form of a straight wire-wound former, and rigidly connected by rods 22. The rods 22 pass through bearings on brackets 28 which carry reflectors 23, each of which has a pair of arms 24, 25 passing respectively through apertures in the tube 12 and plates 26 in the tube 13A. A spider 20, fixed to the tube 12, is attached to a rod 19 threaded through a bushing of a handle 17 whereby the relative position of the tubes 13A and 12 can be changed thus turning the reflectors about their respective generators 21. A key and key-way 14, 15 prevent rotation of the tube 12. The heating wires can be connected as a ballast impedance in the power supply to the discharge device 11. In a medication for infra-red radiation only, six units, similar to those described, extend radially from an axis along which the focus of radiation is moved by a mechanism for simultaneously tilting each unit, as a whole, in planes containing the axis.
