[Class 52(i)] [Also in Groups XVII, XVIII and XX] A cabinet for demonstration and display purposes comprises a framework in the form of a rectangular prism, and plane elements adapted to be secured by removable or detachable fitments in any or all of the frame openings in the prism, the members of the prism being so shaped that each of the frame openings is bordered by a continuous peripheral recess for the reception therein of a plane element in such a manner as to permit the removal and replacement of the plane element without dismemberment of the framework. The frame members 2, which may be of wood. metal, &c., are recessed at the corners as shown at 2a-2d, Fig. 2, to enable plane elements or panels to be inserted in the inner or outer faces of each frame opening or in both such faces. The panels may be secured in the frame openings by springs. plugs, &c. The members 2 are also provided with longitudinal grooves 2e-2h, holes 2s-2u for permitting the attachment of additional frame members by means of bolts &c. and grooves 2i-2l for the support. either directly or by means of bearers 2m of inclined panels, such as mirrors 2n, 2o. Panels may also be secured longitudinally or transversely of the unit by engaging notches in the frame members. The front panel of the unit is provided with one or more viewing openings and, as in the case of the other panels, may be held in position by means of edge strips or by corner plates having projecting ribs for engaging the grooves 2e-2h in the frame members. L-shaped strips may also be screwed to the framework for securing light shields in the frame openings as at Sa, Sb, Fig. 8, and in the case of panels which do not extend completely across the frame openings. additional strips may be provided for retaining and concealing the free edges of the panels. The unit shown in Fig. 8 has an inclined mirror C supported in the framework by adjustable supports 8a, 8b. and a panel D, which may be a mirror or consist of opaque, translucent or transparent material, is arranged in the base frame for supporting the objects to be displayed. A lamp positioned either at La or Lb, or, if desired, below the cabinet, serves to illuminate the objects which are viewed in the mirror C through an opening in the front of the unit. A modified unit of this form comprises also a plate of translucent glass in the top frame, plates of black glass in the end frames, and a front panel having a viewing opening therein the back being either open or closed by a plate of black glass.
