Abstract

643,105. Signs. SHERIDAN, V. Feb. 4, 1948, No. 3294. [Class 3(ii)] In an edge-illuminated sign having a transparent or translucent panel 22 which depends from a lamp casing 1, the bottom of this casing is formed with an elongated slot 20 and the upper edge of the panel 22 is provided with flanges which engage the slot 20 by endwise sliding movement of the panel. The lamp casing 1 is made with a detachable cover 9 which is attached to the top 3 and sides 7 of the box by screws 13, 14 and is proportioned so as to provide the slot 20. The flanges on the panel 22 are formed by angle members 23 riveted to its top edge detachably to support the panel on flanges 6 and 12 of the box and cover. A gap 21 is left between one of the side plates 7 of the box and the flanges 6, 12 so that the panel 22 may be slid into position from that end. A spring clip may be attached to the side plate 7 and arranged to engage the end of the panel to keep it in position. The display matter may be cut, pressed, stamped or engraved in the panel and painted if desired and the lamp box and cover may have cut-out symbols backed by a non- opaque sheet. The sign may be suspended, or supported by a stand. A switch for the lamp may be provided in the top of the box 1.
