608,611. Dielectric heating. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 26, 1945; No. 24972. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1944. [Class 39(iii)] Apparatus for degassing a fixed amount of liquid of the type, such as penicillin, that effervesces when subjected to heat or to vacuum comprises a bottle holder with means for rotating it about a central vertical axis, a bottle balding the fixed amount when at rest and oversized in respect thereof, so that on rotation the surface of the liquid is increased, the liquid being subjected meanwhile to heat or vacuum of an intensity normally sufficient to cause the liquid to effervesce. In the example, a fluid to be treated is introduced into a number of dielectric containers 3 supported and rotated between concentric cylindrical electrodes 7, 9, by dielectric holders 4 with driving means 21, 23, 25, the liquid spreading in a thin film on the walls of the containers. An enclosing metal chamber 1 is connected through a condenser 35 to a vacuum pump. The electrodes 7 and 9 are connected respectively through a metal support 13 to earth and a terminal 17 to a high frequency electric source, e.g. at 30 megacycles per second to heat by dielectric losses. Drying may be continued in a vacuum drying oven.
