Abstract

608,380. Pistons. ABBEY, A. (Aktieboiaget Gotaverken). Feb. 21, 1946, No. 5456. [Class 122 (i)] In a trunk piston 1 of light metal or other material with a high coefficient of expansion, the gudgeon pin 3 is retained in a fixed position in the piston by means of internal cylindrical members 6, made from a material of approximately the same or greater coefficient of expansion than that of the material of the piston. The connecting rod 4 is mounted on the gudgeon pin by means of a roller bearing 5. When the piston 1 is exposed to high heat stresses, the diameter of the gudgeon pin 3 will be enlarged by the internal expanding members 6 to an extent corresponding to the enlargement of the piston. A lock screw 8 retains the gudgeon pin during the application of the expanding members.
