761,314. Stays for hinged articles. WRIGLEY, A. Oct. 5, 1954, No. 28711/54. Class 65 (1). In a telescopic stay comprising an outer tube 21 and an inner rod 28 pivoted to the respective hinged members, a head on the rod bears frictionally in the tube and can be expanded to vary the friction. In the form shown the end of the rod is split and provided with an axial expanding screw 48. In a modification a similarly split end is provided with a transverse expanding screw, and in another form a separate shoe pressed outwards by two screws is let into one side of the rod; in these forms the tube is apertured for access to the screw or screws. The tube may be slotted to provide resilience and to receive a pin carried by the rod to limit relative movement of the members. Instead of the pin, a spring ring 38 may be secured on the rod to form a stop.
