Abstract
A liner-less cylinder for a reciprocating piston engine or machine is made of aluminium and coated on its working surface with either sprayed iron or sprayed nickel chrome alloy. The cylinder bore may first be coated with sprayed molybdenum to act as a bond for the sprayed iron or nickel-chrome alloy and the depths of the molybdenum and iron coatings may be between 0.001 and 0.006 inches and between 0.005 and 0.020 inches, respectively.
