608,348. Milking-machines. NIELSON, H. Feb. 20, 1946, No. 5354. Convention date, June 21, 1940. [Class 84] The main space at the right hand end of the piston 12 of the pulsator of a milking-machine is connected through ports 37, and 25 &c. with the main suction nipple 26, a smaller space behind an extension 15 being connected with the atmosphere through ports 33, 28. The space at the other end of the piston which starts at atmospheric pressure, is exhausted through a port 38, a frequency-control valve 39, and the suction nipple 26 until its suction overbalances that at the right hand end (which is exerted on part only of the piston 12) and atmospheric pressure on the end 15 moves the piston 2. In its stroke towards the left hand side, the piston uncovers a port 22 of the teat-cup hose nipple 18, which is at atmospheric pressure due to connection at 21, 28 with the air, and aids the piston movement which reverses the connections to the nipples 17, 18 for the teat-cup hoses. The arrangement allows substantial quantities of air to pass through the frequency regulating valve which may therefore be made large so that it does not readily clog. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also modifications:-(1) air inlet is through a filter disc alternately to two compartments, one at each end of the pulsator; (2) initial movement of the piston forces compression springs past a dead centre; (3) levers and pistons moving under air pressure aid in completing the piston stroke. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
