Abstract

180,668. Hapgood, C. H. May 28, 1921, [Convention date]. Transmitting power.-A milking-machine system comprises a single pipe line k connected to a main pulsator m and having branches w each leading to a secondary pulsating valve carried by the claw 11, and to a milk receiver through a non-return valve, the receiver being connected through the claw to the inner chamber of the teat cups 21, 22, and the secondary pulsator controlling the pressure in the outer chamber of the cups. The main pulsator consists of a disc valve m rotated by a pinion on the shaft of a rotary exhaust pump and having recesses n, o moving over the port j which leads to the pipe k, the recess n communicating by apertures q with the valve casing which is open to the atmosphere or supplied with air under pressure. The recess o is connected by an annular recess p, a port i and pipe h to the exhausted vessel g. The secondary pulsator comprises a double piston 12, the small end of which is connected to the exhausted milk passage 19 of the claw, the space between the pistons is open to the atmosphere or a pressure supply 13, and the large end is connected by a pipe 10 to the pulsation branch pipe w. When pressure is applied to the large end, the outer chambers of one pair of teat cups are connected to pressure by the ports 14, and the other pair are connected to vacuum by the ports 15, a groove 16, and central passage 17 in the piston open at the small end. The piston moves when suction is applied to the large end and reverses the connection of the cups. The milk receiver y is connected through a double non-return valve of known type in the casing x to the pipe w, so that it is exhausted by the vacuum in the pulsation system. The secondary pulsator is disconnectible from the milk passage 19 of the claw.
