607,724. Control systems for consumption apparatus; inductances. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 22, 1946, No. 2106. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1945. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] A D.C. saturable reactor 4 in the supply circuit to a 3-phase transformer 3 feeding a rectifier 2, is provided with two A.C. windings for each phase, which may be connected in series or in parallel through contacts of a relay 5 energized in dependence on the output voltage of the rectifier, in order to vary the reactance of the reactor. If the rectifier voltage is below a predetermined value, the windings are connected in parallel as shown. A rise in voltage operates 'relay 5 to connect the windings in series and to energize the D.C. winding 6 non- inductively associated with each phase of the A.C. windings, through a resistor 8 over auxiliary contacts 9. The D.C. winding may be fed from any suitable source such as the output side of the rectifier as shown and the arrangement is applicable to single-phase systems.
