[Class 60] In a machine for bevelling or chamfering sheets or panels of wood or like material, particularly for producing comparatively broad bevels having a slope of low value, e.g. 1 to 2 degrees, the sheet wood or like comparatively thin material, e.g. veneer, plywood or similar thin panel a is supported on a platform 7 hinged at 8 to the table 6, the inclination of the platform being adjustable by bolts 11 and slots 12. The platform is apertured for the grinding wheel 5 mounted in the machine frame, the table 6 also being apertured. The work is held down by an adjustable rest 13, e.g. slidably mounted in a guide 14 secured on the platform 7 and locked at the desired height by bolt 15 projecting through a slot 16. The sheet is moved longitudinally on the platform; guiding members for the edge of the sheet can be provided either on the platform or at the rear of rest 13. The grinding wheel can consist of a drum made of a more or less elastic material about which is secured an abrasive material in the form of glass-paper, carborundum cloth, &c. The drum has a profile corresponding to the outline of the bevel to be produced; it may be frustro-conical or curved. Instead of a wheel, an endless abrasive band may be used, running over a drum or a sole plate where it contacts the work. The member 13 may be replaced by one or more rolls which may be idle or be driven to traverse the work along the platform; a series of shoes may be employed providing an endless chain sliding along an adjustable guiding track. A suction hood may be provided for dealing with the dust generated.
