Abstract

607,163. Hatch covers. HAY, S., and SWEET, C. W. Jan. 28, 1946, No. 2728. [Class 113 (i)] A hatch cover having sections hinged together at 29 is folded by applying a horizontal force to the section farthest from the stowed position. In one form, this force is applied by a gear-wheel 14 driven by an electric motor engaging a rack on the hatch coaming. The hinged sections are lifted out of straight by rollers 23 engaging inclined ramps 24. The end section is longer than the rest and its hinge 33 slides in a guide 32 so that its end may rest on the deck when folded. The wheel 14 and the rollers 6 are mounted in eccentric bushes so that the hatch cover can be lifted out of its seals before traversing.
