Abstract
607,073. Arc welding electrode holders. HALLAM, G. Jan. 25, 1946, No. 2439. Addition to 575,700. [Class 39(iii)] In an electrode holder having a central stem 1 with an axial passage 5 through which compressed cooling air flows and returns through a surrounding passage 24 in an outer sleeve 8 which is axially movable to clamp an electrode 12 between the parts, as in the parent Specification, an externally screw - threaded clamping head 2 on the outer end of the stem 1 engages the sleeve so as to clamp an electrode 12 in an aperture 11 in the end of the sleeve 8. The head 2 has a conical end and the apertures 11 are inclined so as to hold the electrode obliquely. Air enters through a pipe 20 at the rear of the handle, passes to the conical end of the stem 1 and returns through passages 7 to the casing 8 at the rear of which it escapes to atmosphere. A pin 14 holds the slotted end of item 1 in the handle 13, which has a rubber cover 16 and carries an electric cable 18. The stem 1 has a collar 25 and insulation sleeve 26. A hand shield 29 is mounted on a flange 27 at the rear of the sleeve 8.
