Abstract
1,192,376. Arc welding electrode holders. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 10 Oct., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 45530/66. Heading H5H. In a welding electrode holder of which the handle is a tubular body 4 through which a power cable 16 extends to a pair of jaws 18, 30, for gripping the welding electrode, the body 4 includes an inner sleeve 2 forming an annular air space 6 between the body and the sleeve, and the sleeve 2 has a bore 19 which connects with ambient air at both ends to provide a cooling flow of air therethrough. The body 4 has holes 8, 28 and 10 for entrance and exit of cooling air also to space 6, and the convected ambient air flows through the bore or annular space 19 between the cable 16 and sleeve 2 by a cylindrical end portion 20 of the fixed jaw 18 being formed with longitudinal grooves 22, Fig. 3 (not shown), through which space 19 communicates with the atmosphere at the jaw end of the handle. The movable jaw 30 is pivoted to fixed jaw 18 by a pin 36 on jaw 30 engaging in slots in flanges 38 on the jaw 18, the pin being held resiliently therein by the spring 40 which urges the jaw 30 towards jaw 18 so that the jaw parts 18<SP>1</SP>, 34, grip the electrode. The jaw parts are covered by insulating pieces 42. Sleeve 2 is of nylon reinforced with chopped strands of glass and body 4 is of polypropylene.
