Abstract
606,946. Vehicle bodies. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. Feb. 20, 1946, No. 5270. Convention date, March 2, 1945. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] In a vehicle body the side sills 27, Fig. 2, have an inwardly facing channel section portion 28, 29, 30 to receive the ends of floor pans 13, 14, Fig. 7, some or most of which are fitted with end brackets 33 forming part of the subject matter of Specification 606,945. The side sill is extended downwardly at 31 to receive the flat end 44 of a transverse beam 24, the plate 44 being welded to an upstanding arm 36 of a side wall sill 36, 37, 38 and to the side sill portion 31. The end of the bolster 11 Fig. 5, is shaped to fit into the channel section and is provided with an upstanding web 41 to which the side post 34 and side wall sill 36 is secured by rivets 42. Similar rivets 42 secure the end plate 40 of the bolster to the side sill webs 29, 30. The side posts 34 are further strengthened by gussets 39, rub rail 49, and brackets 46. A horizontal plate or plates 45 may extend over the entire length of the body or to regions of great stress and are cut out at the location of the bolster and transverse beams. The structures consist mostly of sheet material such as high-tensile stainless steel and most of the connections are made by electric spot-welding except in the case of the bolster beam' which may be welded by fusion.
