Abstract
606,437. Granulating pitch. UNION CHIMIQUE BELGE SOC. ANON. Sept. 28, 1945, No. 25305. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1944. [Class 55(ii)] Process of making pitch granules (which are non-sticky at normal storage temperatures) consists of running molten pitch out of a container fixed or having a rotary or other movement with perforated walls or bottoms into a moving body of liquid containing substances in solution or suspension such as the sulphates and chlorides of the alkali metals, sulphates, hydroxides or carbonates of the alkaline-earth metals or magnesium, finely divided talcum, silica and alumina and also the dusts, slurries or slimes of carbonaceous materials. The granules are preferably removed from the liquid when only surface hardening has taken place the residual heat within the granules being then sufficient to dry them.
