Abstract

<PICT:0589779/III/1> In catalytic and other processes in which a vapour is treated with fluidized solid, the latter is in the form of spherical particles of a substantially uniform size, which may be between 40 and 1000 microns, and is separated from the vapour by filtration through a porous medium. The Figure shows a cracking apparatus in which the catalyst circulates in known manner through a reaction chamber 4 and regeneration chamber 16. Filter bags 6 attached to the plate 7 around holes 7a extend into the fluidized catalyst and constitute the exit for the gaseous products. They are periodically cleared by blowing inert gas backwardly through them from pipes 11. The filter material may be woven from glass or metallic wires, but porous solids made, e.g., of alundum or carbon particles may also be used.
