Abstract

1,149,859. Granulating apparatus. UNILEVER Ltd. 7 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 42823/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division C1] Apparatus for building up particles of alkali metal silicate comprises inclined rotary vessel 11, fed with crushed particles from 10, alkali metal silicate solution from nozzles 21, and a gaseous drying medium from 24 which flows in countercurrent to the particles. The solution may be introduced in portions through all the nozzles, or 90% may be introduced through the first three nozzles and 10% through the fourth. The particles are agitated by baffles 18 and removed via screw conveyer 43, undersize particles being recycled. The gas may be humidified air or superheated steam, preferably at 150-1000‹ C. It is separated from fines at 26 and recycled in part. The process may be operated continuously.
