894,773. Fertilizer pellets. CHEMICAL & INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION. May 30, 1958, No. 17440/58. Class 111. [Also in Group V] A continuous process for the formation of pellets of fertilizer or other solid comprises treating a bed of nuclei of the material having a particle size of at least about 40 mesh and a moisture content below the agglomeration point (as defined) in a chamber with constant agitation so as to separate the nuclei, passing through the chamber a hot stream of gas containing droplets of an aqueous slurry of the material, showering the nuclei through the gas stream so as to provide them with a dried coating of slurry and recovering a product of diameter 0À03 to 1.5 inches. As shown, Fig. 1, a slurry 3 is sprayed through nozzles 9, 10, into rotary granulator 2 and on to agitated material fed from feeder 1. A blower 11 draws heated air through the tumbling particles and carries the fines to a cyclone separator 12. The product is collected in receptacle 15, the ground over-size and the under-size being re-cycled through feeder 1 and the pellets being fed through feeder 19 to the dryer 18.
