Abstract
A microporous body is prepared by mixing with a liquid partially polymerized thermosetting resin an inert granular filler in such quantity that the particles are in continuous contact, casting the mixture in a mould, curing the resin by heat at atmospheric pressure and leaching out the filler. A suitable resin is phenol-formaldehyde and a suitable filler is sodium nitrate which can be leached out with water. Suitable proportions are 25 per cent of liquid resin and 75 per cent of sodium nitrate, the granules being such that they will pass through a screen with 325 meshes to the inch.
