[Class 78 (i)] In a belt-training unit of the type comprising one or more belt-supporting idler rollers borne by a swivel-mounted base and separate side contact rollers arranged in alignment with the idler rollers, the side rollers have bearings whereby, when these rollers are rotated by engagement with the belt, they are subjected to considerably greater frictional resistance than are the idler rollers. When the idler rollers are arranged to form the belt into a trough, each contact roller is so mounted or shaped that it presents to the belt a rolling surface that inclines upwards relative to the adjacent idler roller surface. Each contact roller has an enlarged outer part that limits sidewise displacement of the belt. The contact roller 16, Fig. 4, is supported by brackets 15 with its axis slightly inclined to that of the roller 9 and has an enlarged part 16B, the inner face of which is formed with a number of rounded projections 17 to engage the edge of the belt. The roller is mounted on a hollow journal 16c of substantial area which is welded to the brackets and imposes a frictional drag. The idler rollers 7, 8, 9 are mounted on ball bearings 10A in brackets secured to a base-plate 11 which is supported by ball bearings 14, Fig. 6, on a lower base-plate 12. The plate 11 is maintained in position by a central pin 21 screwed into it and its rotational movement is limited by pins 19 extending into slots 20. Lubricant is supplied to the ball-race by conduits 22 and is retained by a ring 23.
