Abstract

604,781. Bottle crates. MORRISONS ENGINEERING, Ltd., and PROCTOR. D. M. Dec. 3, 1945, No. 32576. [Class 18] A bottle crate comprises a single integral piece of sheet metal bent up at opposite ends to form a base A and end walls A<1>, A<2> and a bracing plate D interconnecting the end walls, spaced from the base and having openings to embrace the bottles. The plate may have openings D' having downwardly extending tongues D' or may be in the form of a rigid mesh or grid. Openings C or recesses C' may be provided in the base in alignment with the openings D<2>. The marginal side portions of the base A are bent downwardly to form foot flanges A' and the side margins A<4> of the end walls are bent inwardly to form reinforcing flanges. Angle plates B are provided to strengthen the corners and may have inwardly directed webs which support the base. An upper marginal portion E of each end wall is bent over to form a rim and a slot or finger grip may be provided adjacent to the rim. The finger grip E may be formed by bending back the material of the slot. The rim E may be cut away at its edges an amount equal to the thickness of a foot flange A<3> so that the crates may be more readily stacked.
