Abstract

604,633. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. DENNISON, E. A. Nov. 29, 1945, Nos. 32270/45 and 8495/46. [Class 80 (ii)] A variable-speed ratchet gear for a graindischarge controlling device such as described in Specification 546,352, [Group XXX], comprises two or more clusters of eccentrics or cams 31, 32, 33, 34 of varying throw, slidable along their shaft 19, against the springs 36, so that any eccentric of the cluster's may operate a bell-crank lever 29 carrying a positive pawl 26 engaging with a wheel 25 on the driven shaft 20. The clusters have a concentric portion 35, the radius of which is equal to the smallest radius of the eccentrics, to provide a neutral position. The selection of speed ratio is performed by moving the clusters axially against the springs 36 by sliding a control plate 38, having square and oblique surfaces 44, 45 respectively, alternately on its opposite sides and in staggered relationship to double the number of available speeds, between the thrust members 37 rigid with the eccentric clusters. Operation of the control member is by a screw 39 and a nut 43, the latter having a visual position indicator 46.
