Abstract

539,278. Variable-speed friction gearing. TOLNAI, G. K., and AKTIEBOLAGET G. AREHNS MEKANISKA VERKSTAD. March 1, 1940, No. 3901. Convention date, March 1, 1939. [Class 80 (ii)] In means for controlling the speed of a rotating member by means of step-by-step rotary movements, the rotation of a friction-roller 48, when displaced from the central position on a rotating disc 49, is imparted to a driven shaft through one member of an epicyclic train, and another member of the train receives the stepby-step controlling movements, which are thus superposed upon the motion imparted by the friction gearing. The shaft 47 of the frictionroller has a splined connection with a gear 50, which meshes with a gear 41 of twice the size carrying a planet-wheel 39. The wheel 39 meshes with a sun-wheel 40 on the driven shaft 42 and also with a sun-wheel 38 on a shaft 37, to which the controlling-movements are imparted, e.g. by ratchet-mechanism. A gear 43 on the driven shaft 42 meshes with a gear 44 of the same size formed with a central nut 46, through which passes a threaded portion of the shaft 47. When a short movement is imparted to the shaft 37, the change in velocity of the shaft 42 causes a turning of the nut 46 relatively to the shaft 47, so that the roller is moved outwards or inwards to a new position on the disc 49, and the speed of the roller and that of the driven shaft are altered accordingly.
