Abstract
Vegetable material is impregnated with soda lye at low temperature preferably about 50 DEG C. and boiled in an autoclave for 1-4 hours, a temperature of 160-180 DEG C. being reached in 10-15 minutes as by injection of steam. Quick or slaked lime is added, the mass being dried at 160-180 DEG C. which is maintained for some hours. The mass is then thermally decomposed to form ketonic compounds. In an example 100 kg. oak sawdust are mixed with 60 kg. soda and 60 kg. water and left for 12 hours. The mixture is heated in an autoclave to 180 DEG C. for 3 hours and 120 kg. slaked lime added, a temperature of 180 DEG C. being maintained for 2 hours. The dried mass is then distilled in an externally heated rotating oven at 500-600 DEG C., condensates therefrom comprising acetone and methyl alcohol, light oils and heavy oils. In another example crushed vine shoots are utilized.
