Abstract

604,341. Closures for hot-water bottles. ATKIN, D. Dec. 21, 1945, No. 34792. [Class 125(iii)] Relates to bottles and particularly hotwater bottles and other liquid containers formed of rubber or like flexible material of the kind in which within the neck or equivalent portion 2 of the bottle 1 there is provided for the engagement of the stopper a re-entrant tubular element 7 of elastic material having about it a recess 8 into which the contents of the bottle may enter. According to the invention, the lower end of the element 7 is formed with a shoulder or rib 11 adapted to be engaged by a correspondingly formed shoulder 16 located towards the lower end of the stopper, the rib 11 having an aperture through which a spigot portion 15 on the stopper extends. The element 7 is also provided towards its upper extremity with a second shoulder or rib 10 adapted to engage in a groove 12 formed in the stopper below a flange thereon adapted to seat 'on the outer end of the element 7. The central cylindrical or somewhat tapered portion 14 of the stopper is preferably of a slightly greater length than the corresponding portion of the element 7. The rib 10 and groove 12 may be helical to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the stopper. In a modification, not shown, the stopper is formed integrally with a tab integral with the neck of the bottle.
