Abstract

604,235. Railway vehicle roofs. MARIMON, J. C. Oct. 26, 1945, No. 28296. [Class 103 (iv)] The roof of a railway wagon &c. is attached to the body solely at the ends of the central longitudinal axis. As shown in Fig. 4, the ridge-piece 10 of the roof is provided with depending lugs 9 at each end, one lug being secured to the end wall by a plate 6 hinged to the lug and wall by pins 7, 5 which are arranged at right angles to one another, and the other lug being resiliently mounted on a bolt 8 which is connected to the other end wall in a similar manner. In a modification, the ridge-piece is secured to the end walls by two hinged plates, one of which is slotted to permit longitudinal movement. The roof sheets 15, Fig. 9, are secured to the ridge-piece 10 by a cap 16 and the sides of the sheets are bent over the side longitudinal members at 17 in order to prevent them being lifted by the wind ; or in a modification a depending plate on the sides is slotted longitudinally and engages a stud projecting from the vehicle side whereby longitudinal movement only of the roof sheet is permitted.
