603,854. Rolling tubes. THURSTON, A. P. (Rockrite Processes, Inc.). Nov. 1, 1945, No. 29002. [Class 83 (iv)] The method of rolling a tapered tube as set out in Specification 576,983 is modified in that the partly tapered and partly cylindrical tube left after the penultimate rolling operation of the prior method is worked by step-by-step rolling in the direction of its forward end by a die-set in which the matrices have a taper 12 to form an extension of the tapered portion 11 and then a sharper taper 13. The mandrel also has portions 15 and 18 of differing degrees of taper. Finally, the short cylindrical end of the tube remaining beyond the sharply tapered portion is cut off.
