Abstract

987,512. Rolling. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd. Feb. 27, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 9699/63. Heading B3M. A plug 5 is secured to a mandrel 3 by means of a spigot 4 on one part engaging within a socket on the other part, either the spigot or socket having longitudinal slits 4b as to be resiliently radially deformable. The mandrel is of particular use in the production of tubes by skew rolling. Spigot 4 is screwed to the end of the mandrel and has an enlarged end 4a which engages within a cavity 5c in the socket of the plug 5. Alternatively the spigot may be provided on the plug and the socket may have longitudinal slits.
