Abstract
Water is de-oxygenated and softened by treatment with salts formed from hydrazine or bases producing hydrazine under heat or hydrolysis, containing anions giving insoluble salts with lime and magnesia. From boiler water the treatment precipitates the fur producing agents, removes the oxygen and makes the water slightly alkaline. Oxygen may be removed by the treatment from water to be used in the manufacture of commodities containing vitamins. Salts of the type mentioned are sodium hydrazinic phosphate, hydrazine oxalate, sodium aminoguanidine phosphate and in general the phosphates, oxalates, &c. of carbazides and hydrazine derivatives of urea, guanidine and amidines are effective.
