Abstract

603,053. Lubricating camshafts. JAGUAR CARS, Ltd., HEYNES, W. M., and BAILY, C. W. L. Nov. 17, 1945, No. 30923. [Class 7 (ii)] An internal combustion engine has an overhead camshaft 15 journalled in axially spaced pedestals 19 of the cylinder head 12 and a pipe 26 passing through aligned holes in the pedestals above the camshaft, the pipe carrying lubricant from a supply connected to the opening 28 in the right hand pedestal and passing it to the bearing 16, 18 through the passages 27. A cover 25 for the camshaft is bolted to the upper parts 23 of the pedestals, this cover being provided with internally shaped surfaces 30 above each cam 14 so that lubricant thrown from the bearings will drip on to the cams.
