Abstract

<PICT:0602627/III/1> Exothermic reactions of short reaction time between two liquid reagents, e.g. the sulphation of olefines, are carried out by injecting one of the reagents through a nozzle 3 into an annular chamber 4 containing a reaction mixture with an excess of the other reagent, passing the resultant mixture through a narrower annular chamber 6, and ejecting at 5 into a solution which converts the reaction product and any excess of one reagent into nonreactive compounds; a cooling medium passes through the central tube 2. The quenching solution, which may also be used as the cooling medium, may contain aqueous caustic alkali, triethanolamine, triethylamine or cyclohexylamine. The annular chambers may also be cooled externally.ALSO:<PICT:0602627/IV(b)/1> Olefines are sulphated by injecting either the olefine or sulphuric acid through a nozzle 3 into an annular chamber 4 containing a reaction mixture with an excess of the other reagent, passing the resultant mixture through a narrower annular chamber 6, and ejecting at 5 into a solution containing aqueous caustic alkali, triethanolamine, triethylamine, or cyclohexylamine. A cooling medium, which may be the same as the solution used for quenching, passes through the central tube 2, and the annular chambers may also be cooled externally.
