Abstract
601,717. Fusible cut-outs. LINE EQUIPMENT, Ltd., LAVERICK, P. W., CRANSTON, R. E., and JACKSON, H. P. May 27, 1946, No. 16003. [Class 38 (i)] A fuse A containing a liquid-arc-quencher. X is provided with a replaceable frangible disc E which is pierced by the head B2 of a striker pin B1 when the fusible element B blows. The striker pin is surrounded by an insulating tube D mounted in an extension C5 of the end cap C, to which is screwed a cap C6 that secures the disc in position. A guard E2 may be provided also for the disc. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the fusible element is surrounded by a gas-emitting perforated shroud which is secured at one end to the striker pin and at the other to a contact for the fusible element. The shroud is concentric in another gas-emitting shroud which replaces the insulating tube. In operation as shown in Fig. 5 a chamber K containing a latch manually operated to engage a bar M', Fig. 4 (not shown) is secured to the striker end of the fuse which is inserted in spring loaded trunnions Q<1> on a transmission system and swung into position by a pole inserted in a lever P which retains the bar M<1> in engagement with the latch and with a contact horn R. When the fusible element blows the striker pin trips the latch which releases the bar M' and thereby allows the fuse to drop out of the horn. The fuse is then removed by screwing an extension K3 on the chamber K into a pole and lifting it free of the trunnions Q'.
