Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate automatically an ineffective arrester from a system by connecting one end of an arrester, the other end of which is connected to an iron tower, with a second electrode positioned opposite to the iron tower connected to transmission lines with a prescribed space between the electrode and the iron tower, through a connecting line having a moltable portion.
CONSTITUTION: When an arrester 5 has become ineffective by some reason and has become through condition, fault current from the system will flow to the arrester 5. In this case, a meltable portion 8a melts and breaks instantly to eject a gas toward an iron tower 1 and ionize the surrounding air, and an insulating cylinder 5 is also broken to be scattered. Due to the ionized surrounding air a shirt circuit arc 10 will be generated between a second electrode 7 and the iron tower 1, and therefore the fault current cannot flow to the ineffective arrester 5.
