[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XVII) Stamping.-Apparatus for forming an outside reinforcing ring 2, Fig. 2, around the mouth of a metal can 1 comprises a hollow punch 17, Fig. 4, which holds the can and pushes its mouth over a compressible core 14 into a groove 13 in a die 9 which forms a curled bead 5 around the rim and then turns the wall of the can back on itself so that the bead 5 makes close contact with said wall. The radius of curvature of the inner part of the groove 13 is larger than that of the outer part.
