601,039. Turning ; observing tools and work. RELIEPHOGRAPHIE, SOC. POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES DE PHOTOGRAPHIE EN RELIEF M. BONNET. Aug. 24,1945, No. 21816. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1942. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In the cutting of hyperbolic grooves around the surface of a metal cylinder 1 by means of a diamond 2 with a straight cutting edge which is set at an angle to the axis of the cylinder in a plane parallel with said axis, the diamond has an apical angle a of at least 70 degrees and is so set that the attacking clearance angle b is not less than 3 degrees and the cutting angle d is greater and less than 90 degrees at the points 3, 6 where the cutting edge attacks and leaves the groove, respectively. The diamond is partially uncut, brazed in a socket 9, and fixed by means of a plate 10, screw 11 and wedge 12 in the head 13 of a setting with a cylindrical shaft 14. The latter is clamped by screws 15 in the bore of a tool holder 16 which is slidable vertically on a block 17 resting on two wedge discs 19, 20 rotation of which permits the axis 18 of the block 17 to be brought parallel to any setting of the edge of the diamond. The setting of the diamond and of the tool holder is effected by means of a scale and rays of light R, R<SP>1</SP> reflected from polished facets 8, 21 respectively.
