Abstract
600,968. Burglar alarms. JARDINE, G. R. F. Oct. 6, 1945, No. 26108. [Class 118 (i)] In an electric burglar or like alarm device in which a spring-controlled slidable bolt normally held under compression is arranged to be released and to project beyond an opening in a face plate to close electric contacts when the door, window &c. to which the device is attached is opened the bolt is laterally displaceable so that it can be retained with its end partly out of register with the opening in the face plate and means operating automatically for positively holding the bolt in its projected position. The arrangement comprising the bolt 4 in a housing 5 fitted with an end face 6 is sunk into a recess 7 in a door frame 8 such that the door edge 9, when closed, presses against the end of the bolt 4 thus holding it against the bias of a spring 11 in the position shown by full lines in Fig. 1. In this position the electric circuit through a contact 17, attached to the bolt shank 12, and a contact 18, fixed to, but insulated from, the housing 5, is broken. When the door is opened the bolt 4 which has previously been moved to register with the hole in the face plate springs into its fully projected position, shown in broken lines in Fig. 1, thus closing the contacts 17, 18 and energizing a suitable audible or visible alarm device connected to leads 19, 20. In the projected position a groove 13 in the bolt registers with the edge of the hole 10 in the face plate 6 under the action of gravity or of a spring-controlled pin 14 carried in a bracket 15. When the bolt is pushed back through the face plate the pin 14 presses it on to a ledge 21, Fig. 2, in the rear of the face plate. The necessary lateral movement of the bolt is provided by loosely mounting its shank 12 in a guide 16 on the housing 5. To set the device a suitable tool, inserted through the face plate and into a recess 22 in the end of the bolt, is manipulated to bring the end of the bolt 4 into register with the hole 10 in the face plate.
