Abstract
600,383. Rotary pumps and compressors. SERRUYS, J. E. E. Oct. 12, 1945, Nos. 26768 and 26769. Convention dates, July 22, 1942, and June 18, 1943. [Class 110 (ii)] In a machine, such as a pump or compressor, of the kind comprising an eccentric rotor and a positively driven abutment oscillating about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor, the abutment has a face extending on opposite sides of the axis of oscillation and having portions disposed substantially radially with respect to the axis of oscillation of the abutment. The abutment 8, Fig. 1, is pivoted on a spindle 9, and its actuating arm, Fig. 2, is operated by a connecting rod 13 attached to a crank-pin 11 which is concentric with the rotor 4. There is a slight clearance between the abutment and the rotor periphery, of the order of one to several hundredths of a millimetre. An arcuate portion 15 of the abutment forms a slide valve in co-operation with the delivery port 16. Preferably, the rotor has a stepped shoulder 18 to sweep away solid particles and dust, and the portion 19 may be machined to the same radius as that of the inner periphery of the chamber 1 so as to make arcuate contact therewith. The portion 19 may be grooved as shown.. In a modified construction, Fig. 6, one or more valves 22 communicating with the inlet 7 may be provided to enable the commencement of the pressure cycle to be delayed by opening one or other of the valves. Cam levers 24 are provided for this purpose. The valves 22 may take the form of arcuate slide elements applied against the external face of the chamber 1. A valve 17<0> may be disposed in parallel with the slide valve 15 to enable discharge to commence before the opening of port 16. A valve 17<00> may be disposed in series with the slide valve 15 to enable discharge to cease before the closing of port 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises a construction, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which one end of a resilient blade 25 is clamped between a rigid plate 27 and a recessed surface 26 of the abutment, and the other end is free to deflect under the influence of the opposing pressures acting on its two sides for the purpose of effecting a variation in the valve timing in accordance with pressure conditions. To balance the rotor, which is of lighter metal than its shaft, that portion of the latter which passes through the rotor is offset. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
