Abstract

728,269. Rotary engines. PORTE, E. F. April 15, 1953 [April 18, 1952], No. 10274/53. Class 110 (2). A rotary pump 1 of the sliding-rocking vane type has a casing 2 with inlet and outlet openings 3, 4 and a drive shaft 7 on which is a sleeve 9 forming a bearing housed within a cylindrical boss 10 projecting from the end plate 5 of the casing. The boss 10 is eccentric relative to the sleeve 9 and the shaft 7 is supported.in the end plate 6 by a roller bearing 11 held in position by a cover 12 in which is a felt packing 15 surrounding the shaft. A fluid-tight ring 16 placed on the shaft bears against a sealing washer 14. Fixed on the shaft is an annular rotor 17 held in position at one end by threaded members 18 and at the other end by members 20, 21. Radial blades 22 extend inwardly from the rotor which has ports 24 providing communication between the interior of the rotor and the headers 3. A cylindrical core 25 is mounted eccentrically within the rotor on a sleeve 26 surrounding the boss 10 and is rotated in unison with the rotor by means of three spindles 27 mounted in the members 18, 20 and carrying rollers 23 which bear against the surface of cylindrical longitudinal bores 28 in the core. The eccentricity of the spindle relative to the bore is the same as that of the core relative to the rotor. The core also accommodates three sector members 29 rockably mounted on pivots 30 fixed in the core and each sector has a longitudinal bore in which a cylindrical member 32, slotted to receive a blade 22, can rotate as the sector swings on its pivot during operation of the pump. Fluidtight packings 33, 34 prevent direct communication between the inlet and outlet headers. The pump may have only two blades and two friction rollers.
