[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 30, 1945.] [Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and X] Apparatus for stirring, mixing, and the production of lather, scums, or cellular products, as described in the parent Specification, comprises either a brush rotated in a cylinder open at both ends and arranged to be fed at the top thereof with the substance under treatment, or a modification wherein a brush is reciprocated in a cylinder in the manner of a piston and the cylinder is open at the top and is provided with a bottom feed arrangement. For preparing cellular cement a froth generating substance mixed with water is supplied from a tank 2, Fig. 2, to the upper end of a cylinder 5 formed on its inner surface with ridges which project into the path of the helically arranged bristles of a cylindrical brush 6. The froth produced is passed through a channel 15 into a similar ridged cylinder 13 to be agitated by a brush 14 similar to the brush 6, together with plaster, cement, or other solid ingredients supplied by a screw conveyer from a hopper 21 through a shoot 20. In an alternative-apparatus constructed as a cement gun a helical brush 27, Fig. 4, is rotated in an internally ridged tubular barrel 26 by a compressed air motor 28. The barrel 26 is supplied through tubes 30, 31, one for powdered material, the other for water or water mixed, with a froth generating substance. An air jet 33 is mounted in the nozzle 32. The brush may, alternatively, be rotated by an electric motor or by a turbine operated either by the pressure of the water fed to the mixture or by that water pressure combined with the pressure of the feed of the powdered materials by compressed air.
