Abstract

Printing colours which yield prints soft to the touch are prepared by adding to a chromiferous textile printing colour containing gum, a metal compound that in aqueous solution yields colourless di- or tri-valent cations and with chromates forms no insoluble salt. In a modification, the metal compound is reacted with chromic acid or an alkali or ammonium chromate or dichromate, and the product subsequently added to a printing colour. A base may be added to neutralize the acid reaction which may result from combination of the metal compound and the chromate. Suitable salts are the salts of zinc, cadmium, magnesium, calcium, strontium and aluminium. In an example, solutions of sodium dichromate, zinc sulphate and ammonia are mixed and the precipitate which contains Cr, Zn and NH3 in the atomic ratio approximately 3 : 2 : 2, is incorporated with a printing paste containing Chromazurol S conc., urea, gum, water and acetic acid. In a second example, the metal salt is replaced by a salt obtained by (a) mixing aqueous solutions of sodium dichromate, zinc sulphate and caustic soda or potash and drying; (b) mixing aqueous solutions of sodium dichromate and magnesium sulphate; (c) mixing sodium dichromate and anhydrous calcium chloride and drying; (d) mixing aqueous solutions of sodium dichromate, cadmium sulphate (or strontium chloride) and ammonia and drying, or (e) mixing aqueous solutions of sodium dichromate, aluminium sulphate and ammonia.ALSO:Printing colours which yield prints soft to the touch are prepared by adding to a chromiferous textile printing colour containing gum, a metal compound that in aqueous solution yields colourless di- or tri-valent cations and with chromates forms no insoluble salt.
