Abstract
599,823. Copying by milling ; drilling ; uniting by fusion. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and DIMMICK, W. S. S. May 11, 1945, Nos. 11890 and 16949. [Classes 83 (in) and 83 (iv)] Work-holders.-A work-locating device for routing, drilling, welding, &c. comprises several pairs of co-operating locating members, means for locating one of the members of each pair in position on a supporting base or table, means for securing the other member to a template and the work, and a socket on one member for engagement with a dowel pin carried by the other. Each locating member consists of a member g, Fig. 2, having a dowel pin e and screwed portion 5, and a socket member d having one or more projecting pins c and a hole f for reception of the dowel pin. The dowel pin members are placed in holes in the work, such as metal plates h, and a template i is secured to the dowel members, either above or below the boss portion of the member g, by knurled nuts 6. With the respective socket members in position on the dowel pins, the whole assembly is pressed downwards on a wooden table top a and held there by suitable clamps, to be operated on by the tool k. The socket members are thus located. on the table by 'the pins c in the correct position for the location of subsequent work-pieces. The socket members have one or more radial holes n to facilitate clearance of swarf from the socket holes. The dowel pins may be formed on the member d for engagement with socket holes formed in the member g ; a version in which a T-headed bolt engages a slot in a table and the socket member screws on to the bolt is also described. In a modification, cross girders r, Fig. 8, composed of pairs of angle sections are attached by bolts to similar girders q forming two sides of a table top and each socket member consists of a hollow bolt v, Fig. 10, a split collet u operated by a handle 3 and nut z and a lock-nut y for clamping the socket member to the cross girder. In a further modification, the collet members are attached to the template and the dowel pins to the cross girder. The clamps described in Specification 599,824 are referred to.
