Abstract
599,299. Two-way transmission. SOC. ANON. DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 29589. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1942. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In an equalizer 7 for telephonic repeaters, in which a tapped resistance 8 enables the attenuation to be adjusted for lines of different lengths, the same setting of the resistance 8 can be used for heavily loaded as for lightly loaded lines. To this end the resistance 8 is formed as a series of T-sections between terminals 14, 20, Fig. 2, and a switch 15 is closed or open according as the line to be equalized is loaded with 88 or 177 mH per 1800 metres. The resistances are so calculated that the settings of the wiper 16 are the same in both cases for the same lengths of time. In this way, the repeater is equalized for frequencies above the resonant frequency, 800 c/s., of the network. If distortion results at the lower frequencies, a similar resistance 18 with shunt condenser 19 is inserted in series.
