Abstract
599,282. Step-ladders. LOMAS, F. D. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22747. [Class 20(ii)] The two top steps 16 of a step-ladder are hinged together at 18 so that they form a platform when the ladder is in the open position. The sides 11 are formed of sheet metal pressings, the outer edge being bent into a channel section 13 and the inner edge 14 bent, inwards at, right angles. The. steps 12, also formed of sheet metal pressings, have turned-down edges 15 and corrugated sheet metal reinforcing members 16 welded underneath them. A pair of sheet metal members 19 with turned down edges 22 hinged at 20, 21 prevent the ladder from spreading. A steadying support 24, having a hand grip at its upper end, may be secured to the top step, on to the side member or to both at one or at each side of the front or rear leg. Alternatively, it may be received in a socket or sockets 23 secured in these positions. The various parts of the ladder may be welded together.
