[Class 45] A fence is built up of uprights 10 connected by horizontal rails 15, 16, the enclosed space being filled by a network 19 consisting of horizontal and vertical elements welded together at their intersections. The uprights 10 are of T or of channel section, and the rails 15, 16 of L-section, and the vertical elements of the net 19 pass through holes in the horizontal parts of rails 15, 16. The attachment of the rails 15, 16 to the posts 10 is effected by providing a slot in each end of the rails and a column of similar slots 14 at top and bottom of the posts 10, a deformable staple 18 being passed through a selected pair of slots 14 and the slots in the two abutting rails. The slots 14 allow of the rails 15, 16 being suitably adjusted above the ground, and permit of the fence being erected up and down a slope. The lower end of each post 10 may be pointed and may be passed through a slot in an L-piece 12 buried in the ground, or the end may be simply buried in concrete blocks 13. Intermediate round rods 2 may pass through both rails and be welded thereto and to the net 19. A gate is shown at 21, formed by bending an angle strip 22 into D form and fitting a vertical 23 across its ends, network 19 being inserted as before. Fig. 10 shows a modified form having a tubular top rail 26 and tubular uprights 24, the connection being effected by a cap 28 having flanges 29 and depending tongues 30 joined together by a bridge 32 and plugged at 31 to the upright. Lugs 33 depending from the cap engage the rails 26, and the tops of the uprights are suitably recessed to receive the rails 26. Half-straps are riveted to, and embrace, the lower ends of the uprights for bolt and nut attachment to the angular bottom rails.
